Deniz Saypınar

Deniz Saypınar is a Los Angeles–based artist working in abstract and psychological surrealism, born in Istanbul, Turkey. She has been drawing and painting since the age of 15, developing a practice centered on identity, emotional duality, and symbolic transformation through colour and tone.

Working primarily in acrylic on unstretched cloth, often at large scale and by hand, her palette draws from the impossible colours of birds, the rising feminine, and the colour of the earth — and explores undiscovered colours. Where words, shapes and forms, the known, can't go beyond the purest form, there goes NOR: with undiscovered colours come alive, speaking with no words but with colours.

The practice moves between abstract and psychological surrealism. NOR — the ongoing series — is the identity of non-identity: a painting of what can't be named. Art should illuminate. Paintings that illuminate, and reunite.
